The Altar

I dreamed that I was at the grocery store with my dad. It was a pretty new store right next door to my house and it was very nice. I had alot of fun exploring but everything was so expensive. After a couple of hours of shopping, we decided to go check out and go home. At the front of the store were two altars. They were round and when people would put things on them, fire would come from the ceiling and consume it. We were told that they were altars to God and people put their offerings on them. Well, I didn't have enough money to buy anything to sacrifice so we just went home. I walked in the door and noticed that we had some leftover teriyaki chicken so I grabbed a piece and headed back over to the store. I really wanted to see what would happen when I offered something.

As I was crossing the bridge to go back to the store, a thought occurred to me. Was I offering something I bought myself or something convenient? If I didn't buy it myself, was it the best I could find? I came to the conclusion that the answer to both of those questions was a big fat no. I couldn't offer this to God; it wasn't my best.

My dreams rarely have lessons attached to them but this one did. Am I truly giving my best to God?

Nap Time Nehemiah

Background: I decided to take a quick nap this evening before I did some cleaning. I'm doing this thing with my church where we're reading the Bible in 90 days. We're currently in the book of Esther. I hadn't started Nehemiah yet but knew that it was coming. We had read a few verses on Nehemiah in Bible study which is where this probably came from.

The dream: I was watching Nehemiah get ready to leave Persia and head to Jerusalem. It was going to be a long trip and somehow, by looking at a map of the route he took, it turned into a grid like the Pacman game. So I watched Nehemiah travel through a maze that looked like Pacman's lair. I woke up about five minutes after I drifted off.

Nazis and The Scarlet Letter

Originally posted May 3, 2009.

Background: We were reading 'The Scarlet Letter' in my Lit class so I was doing homework the other night at work. I was getting kind of tired so I decided to see what Netflix had to offer. I decided to watch a documentary of the Nuremberg trial. Basically, it was on the Nazi leaders who had to stand trial after WWII. Then I went home and went to bed. Dumb move #1.

The dream: When I fell asleep, I immediately started dreaming about being in Japan during WWII only it was in the present day. I dreamed that I was trying to get back to the States but couldn't get past the Nazis. I couldn't open my mouth or they're know I was an American. I stumbled across a refuge camp for pregnant Japanese women and took refuge in it. I had to pretend to be pregnant or they would kill me. Eventually, I realized that I had to get pregnant.

The soliders moved us across Asia and Europe because our ultimate destination was Los Angeles. Don't ask me why we moved west instead of east or why pregnant Japanese women were trying to get to California. Anyways, we came across a camp of American soliders and afterwards I was pregnant. Weird, I know. And no, I don't remember the act. Get your mind out of the gutter! All I know is that it was a guy I had known at home and dreamed up just for this dream.

Seven years later (people who have read 'The Scarlet Letter' will understand the significance of that), I was at home in Denver with a little girl. The solider found me and we sat down to decide if we wanted to get married or not. He wanted to, I wasn't sure about it. That's when I woke up.
